I remember being fairly young when they released Do They Know It’s Christmas but I also remember thinking how amazing this was.
To see this video for the first time was an amazing experience. So many stars crammed into one video was an exciting experience. This was back in the day when MTV actually played music videos. So, many Saturdays where spent in front of the TV, to my parents dismay watching the MTV Top 20 Video Countdown.
This song was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in response to the famine in Ethiopia. They complied the hottest British and Irish band members to form Band Aid. The single sold a million copies in the first week alone.
My favorite line is when Bono belts out “Well, tonight thank God it’s them instead of you” Thirty four years later I still get chills. That sarcastic line speaks volumes about what they were trying to accomplish.
